The Tokyo Olympic Summer Games were postponed in 2020 in the early months of the Covid-19 pandemic. Now, they are facing increasing issues with putting on the Summer Games in 2021.
On of the most troubling of these issues is that the US State Department has advised against US citizens traveling to Japan because of the increase in Covid-19 cases. They’ve instituted a level 4 “do not travel” warning. This is the departments highest caution level.
No Americans have been allowed in Japan as tourists in over a year. Japan has been closed to casual travelers throughout the pandemic. Only under very limited reasons are Americans allowed to enter the country.
However, the Summer Games are still scheduled to take place from July 23 to August 8 in Japan this year.
Katsunobu Kato, chief cabinet secretary, stated Tokyo believes the United States still supports holding the Summer Games despite the travel advisory by the Sate Department.
